Organizational Brief
The Institute of Industrial Research is one of the leading Research Institutes of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the main Science and Technology Research and Development institution of Ghana.
As per its mandate, the Institute works towards creating opportunities to generate and increase incomes within the SMEs to contribute towards food security, foreign exchange earnings and applying cost-effective industrial technologies that are both environmentally friendly and commercially viable. The drive is people empowerment and poverty reduction.
Currently, the Institute promotes and pursues research and development in the area of Renewable Energy Technologies, Industrial Processes, New Materials, Improved Sanitation, Local Equipment Fabrication and Emerging Information/Communication Technologies.
The Institute welcomes collaborations from individuals, educational institutions, corporate organisations and philanthropists through partnerships in order to meet its target of becoming financially independent to fund its own research projects and programmes.
Establishment
The CSIR-IIR which is Ghana’s foremost industrial research and development organization emerged out of the merger of the former Industrial Research Institute (IRI) and Scientific Instrumentation Centre (SIC) in 1998.

The strategic objectives are aimed at addressing all the critical areas identified to strategically position the Institute on both the sub–regional and international scenes. They also define the focus and provide a guide for the research and development activities at CSIR - Institute of Industrial Research. The key objectives are as follows:
