CEWPAG Project (Solar PV Training)

The CEWPAG project is a Public – Private venture between the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research-Institute of Industrial Research and TELSOL, a private company. The project aims to offer nationwide training to close the Industrial training gap of existing solar PV skills and international accepted standards in Ghana.

For its successful implementation, CSIR-IIR partnered TELSOL, a private company to train members of the Certified Electrical Wiring Professional Association of Ghana (CEWPAG) in solar installation, maintenance and entrepreneurship for the economic growth of Ghana.

Funding of the project was sourced from the Skills Development Fund (SDF) of the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) with Energy Commission as a key stakeholder. CSIR-IIR provided infrastructural support and facilities needed for a successful implementation of the project.

The project objectives included but not limited to building capacity in the deployment of solar PV Energy systems and offering solar products and services that meet basic technical and performance standards in Ghana.

Trainees were introduced to PV technology knowledge and skills to pursue career in the solar energy industry.

The training also addressed critical skills, competencies, and knowledge required of PV system installers to install, uninstall and repair PV systems.

In all about, 1700 individuals were trained electrical across the all regions of the country from identifiable associations, a figure higher than the expected 1500 trainees.
